Market Storage
Market storage (also known as Market-file) is a disk-based product that is designed to support research data that is accessed regularly (usually every day) by researchers. Market storage closely resembles the Monash University S Drive and is suitable for data that changes frequently and needs to be available for daily work but is too large to be stored on a local machine. Market storage can be presented as a desktop share or network drive (SMB) or can be mounted on a server (NFS 1). Access to SMB shares is controlled via secure access groups that can be managed through the University's GroupAdmin Tool). NFS shares are made available to specific machines using static IP addresses or hostnames.
Market storage provides fast and immediate access to files and is designed for data that is in active use. Data stored on Market will remain on disk until it is archived to Vault or is deleted. Market storage is backed up daily and backups are retained for 30 days. As a result, individual file changes made over the course of a day cannot be recovered because backups are conducted overnight. If multiple versions of a file are required, manual version control is recommended. Data that has been deleted from Market can be recovered if it is restored within 30 days, however once deleted data is older than 30 days it will no longer be available.
For collections larger than 10TB, a combination of Market storage (active data) and Vault storage (inactive data) is generally recommended. Market storage can be accessed by external collaborators using the Monash VPN or via Aspera (a web-based service). Note that Market storage has less overall capacity than Vault storage and allocations can be requested via the Data Dashboard.
