Research Data Storage
The following storage products are made available to researchers at Monash University by eResearch:
Market Storage
Market storage (also known as Market-file) is a disk-based product that is designed to support research data that is accessed regularly (usually every day) by researchers.
Vault Storage
Vault storage is a tape-based product that is designed to accommodate long-term data retention and is best used to store data that is accessed infrequently or backups of data that is being stored locally.
Archive Storage
Archive storage, also known as the Monash University Research Data Archive (MURDA), is a managed archive service and research data repository supported by Monash eResearch.
Research Data Transfer
eResearch also offers a number of tools for researchers to use when transferring data between systems.
Aspera
Aspera is a licensed commercial product that can be used to provide high-speed access to all or part of RDS Market or Vault collections. Transfer is performed through a web-browser plugin, and can be made available to Monash or external contacts.
FileSender
The AARNet-managed FileSender system can be used for ad-hoc transfers by anyone with AAF (Australian Access Federation) access, or via "vouchers" to external parties. Researchers upload data to FileSender, then the recipient downloads it from there.
Globus
Monash eResearch provides access to the Globus data management service, which allows users to transfer and share large datasets securely and efficiently. Globus provides access to existing storage allocations on the RDS Market and Vault systems.
Transfer Tool
An internally developed eResearch tool that provides a web frontend to perform direct storage-to-storage transfers using SFTP.
