Storage quotas

M3 does not have unlimited storage capacity. Therefore, we enforce storage quotas on the different filesystems. A storage quota is the maximum amount of disk space you can use on a given filesystem. The below table summarises the quota available to each user (in their home directory) and project (note each project gets its own quotas).

Requesting an increase

important

Your default Home directory has:

  • a 15G Soft Limit
  • a 20G Hard Limit

If you exceed your Soft Limit for more than a week, you will find you can not write to the file system until your disk usage falls below the Soft Limit

user_info will only show the hard quota.

important

Before requesting a large increase

Our Lustre system if quite full, and approaching a point where its size will affect its performance. Large quota requests (e.g. 10+TB) will be reviewed more closely, and will only be given for temporary periods of time e.g. 30 days.

If you have any further enquiries, please contact us at help@massive.org.au.

To request an increase in storage quota, please submit this form: https://tinyurl.com/massive-m3-quota-request. Please wait up to 2 weeks for your request to be processed.

As of 10 April 2025, we have retired the /fs03 file system that used to host /scratch. All your /scratch folders have been migrated to: /scratch2/<> or if your project already has a /scratch2 allocation prior to April 2025, we will migrate your /scratch folder into a subdirectory oldscratch within /scratch2/<> to ensure there are no file conflicts.
