Storage quotas
M3 does not have unlimited storage capacity. Therefore, we enforce storage quotas on the different filesystems. A storage quota is the maximum amount of disk space you can use on a given filesystem. The below table summarises the quota available to each user (in their home directory) and project (note each project gets its own quotas).
Directory | Default quota | Can you increase this? |
---|---|---|
Home ~ | 10 GB | No |
Project /projects/ab12 | 500 GB | Upon request |
Scratch /scratch/ab12 | 3 TB | See below |
Scratch2 /scratch2/ab12 | 3 TB | Upon request |
Requesting an increase
To request an increase in storage quota, please submit this form: https://tinyurl.com/massive-m3-quota-request. Please wait up to 2 weeks for your request to be processed.
As of 14 December 2024, we are no longer approving allocations on /scratch
. This is because /scratch
will be retired by May 2025. If you need space, please specify /scratch2
and we will allocate you a space, unless your project already has an allocation. This maybe a good opportunity to clean up your respective /scratch
folders.
If we grant your project a /scratch2
allocation, we will offer to migrate your data from /scratch
. Note however that the migration will be scheduled accordingly, and during the migration, your access to /scratch
will not be possible.
NOTE. If your project already has a /scratch2
allocation prior to January 2025, we will migrate your /scratch
folder into a subdirectory oldscratch
within /scratch2/<>
to ensure there are no file conflicts.
