Open call for Monash NCI scheme
How to Apply
Monash eResearch, in partnership with the Faculties of Science, Engineering and IT, has acquired HPCaaS (HPC as a Service) capacity from the National Computing Infrastructure - NCI. The allocations provide access to the NCI Gadi HPC cluster and project data storage. The resources are available quarterly to Monash researchers and HDR students through a competitive but lightweight application process.
Applicants are asked to review the NCI SU model to evaluate the SU budget required.
Important information
- The capacity available to Monash through NCI has increased in 2025, therefore eResearch is seeking to support extra capacity for projects.
- NCI allocation periods and application open and deadline dates can be found here.
- Existing projects must submit a report before applying for more capacity. A link to the report form will be provided in the new open call application form.
Terms and Conditions
- Request limits:
- Minimum: 1 kSU
- Maximum: 600 kSU
- HDR students are expected to apply themselves, but they can be requested to be added to a joint project at NCI.
- Unused allocation will expire at the end of the term and can’t be rolled over automatically to the next term.
- For the approved grants greater than 300 kSU, 50% will be initially provided.
- Excessive unused allocation mid-term may be removed and returned to the resource pool for reallocation unless a valid assurance can be made that the allocation will be fully utilised by the end of the term, according to the guidelines below -
- Usage is monitored and will be reduced mid-term to 130% of the current usage figure if it is below 75% if no assurance of full usage is provided.
- Excessive unused allocation by the end of the term will likely reduce the chances for an extension. eResearch recommends that researchers plan accordingly for compute and data requirements.
- More resources can be requested if the provisioned allocation has reached 80% and is insufficient. Please contact Monash eResearch here to apply.
- Late applications submitted past cutoff deadlines will not be considered.
